Part of my job is fielding customer questions. I really like it when they ask questions that are easy for me to answer. For example, one client this week asked "What is the difference in inspectors that one would charge $100 more than another?" (I had the distinct impression that Yellow Hat was the one that was charging more.) That's a good question!
And I have a good answer. Actually I have a number of good answers. Let's start with the "not so obvious".
1. There are different levels of licensing. This inspector is a professional inspector, which is the highest level in Texas.
2. There are different levels of certification. This inspector is a certified Master Inspector. He is also Haag Engineering certified for residential roofs.
3. Different inspectors use different equipment. This inspector uses high-tech instruments to analyze electrical circuitry for voltage drops. He also uses a gas leak detection device rather than soapy water. He has an instrument to check for microwave leaks. He has an infrared camera. He has a fiber-optic camera. He has an instrument to measure the level of the foundation. Some inspectors have a clipboard and a pencil.
4. This inspector's background is in engineering, not in the trades.
That is where he stopped me to schedule his appointment. But when I look at this, I think the price difference should be more than $100. Make note to review pricing soon.
